Tell your doctor about any medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs.
Neurontin Drug InteractionsIf Neurontin is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either can be increased, decreased, or altered. Neurontin does not interact with other commonly used antiseizure medications.
It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Neurontin with the following:
Antacids ( Maalox )
Hydrocodone ( Lortab, Vicodin )
Naproxen ( Naprosyn )
Morphine ( eg. Kadian, MS Contin )
Antacids will decrease the amount of Neurontin that is absorbed in the stomach. Do not take Neurontin for at least 2 hours after a dose of antacid. Neurontin may increase the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness, including antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, sedatives (used to treat insomnia), pain relievers, anxiety medicines, and muscle relaxants.
Neurontin Medical NotesThe effects of Neurontin on pregnant women have not been adequately studied, although birth defects have occurred in babies whose mothers took an antiepileptic medication while they were pregnant. The drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, tell your doctor immediately. This medication may appear in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. It should be used by mothers who nurse their babies only if its benefits clearly outweigh the risks.
Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken or given too much of this medicine. If you have any questions about this medicine, please talk with your doctor, pharmacist, or health care provider.
Neurontin Missed DosagesIf a dose is missed, take or give it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and advise your doctor or pharmacist at your next visit. Try not to allow more than 12 hours to pass between doses.
